QM 46-2: Setting form stripes on No. 1 unit

We bought a used QM 46 / 2 color press and are trying to get it set up to run. We are trying to set the stripes. We set 3 form rollers to the oscillator all have good 4mm stripes. Then we set the 2nd (Blue) form roller 2 to plate no problem. Then the 1st (yellow) form roller we can not get a stripe to show up on the plate. It slightly shows a little bit on one end but no matter how much we turn the orange screws it doesn't change the stripe. Counter clockwise should increase the stripe but it does not. Any suggestion on what we are doing wrong? Is there another part that could be causing the stripe not to show up?

  • Hi sir:

    The rule for adjustment is this:

    Turn clockwise:
    Stripe width decreases;
    Turn anticlockwise:
    Stripe width increases.

    Observe default dimension of the adjusting screw (32.7 mm)

    Merry Christmas

    Yes that's what we are doing counter or anti-clockwise bus it does not do anything. We have turned them like 9 or 10 rotations and it doesn't change the stripe.

    I'm not sure what you mean by "Observe default dimension of the adjusting screw (32.7 mm)"

    Are they new rollers ?
    No. we are going to try and order a new roller and se if that help. When we measure the roller it seems to be the right thickness. The adjustments on this press were just really jacked up. The people we bought it from said they just replaced all the rollers but we don't know how true that is.

    Sometimes you can find if the roller is not quite the correct shore hardness getting a 4mm ink stripe to the oscillator can affect the setting to the plate - maybe make that 3mm & see if anything can be seen on the plate.
    Also spray some lubricant on the adjusters just incase the mechanism has seized.

    QM are have very little room for rubber shrinkage, exactly what you describe the 1st form is the worst. . . If you make the stripe to the transfer smaller (2.5-3mm) you will get more stripe to the plate. Smaller than 4mm stripes to transfer will lead to imulsacation, but manageable. You can run .004 packing (adjust packing under blanket by same amount) under the plate and get more life out of the rollers. Best bet is new rollers,
