Hello,

We have an XL106-8 from 2012. S15B with Inpress & Image Control.
In general when we print we always have the colorbar in the lead edge, full width.
We either use the micro 6 or the micro 8. Nothing else.
Last week when we only needed to print elements in the middle of the sheet I was asked by the press operators if I could cut down the width of the colorbar so the colorbar would only be present in the area in the center that they were printing (420 mm). I cut the colorbar but then inpress did not read at all.
Today I tried with 520 mm (as in the image) but the same result - no readings.
Anyone know what is the minimum colorbar width required for inpress control to read the dipco micro 6 & 8 colorbars?

I'm a pressman and not pre-press, but I'd imagine, rather than you "cutting" the colour bar, you'd have to designate a smaller sheet size for the job in pre-press, which will automatically position all the important info within the new size, and the the pressman will then just enter on the press the actual paper size they are using.

I'd imagine the minimum width of the colour bar will be related to the minimum sheet size the 106 can run, which is 340x480.

Hope that helps

Steve

    Hi Steve, thank you!
As we dont use Prinect for imposition I dont think that will work. Esko AE will only cut the colorbar mark from the center to the trimbox - roughly same as I have done.
But I have asked Heidelberg support to supply me with examples of how the micro 6 & 8 will look on the minimum format. That should solve the mystery :)

Turns out that Heidelberg had to make changes in an .ini file for the inpress control so that it can read single inpress control marks on short color bars.
In the standard configuration inpress requires these control marks both on the right and the left of the centre mark.
It was a 5 minute job for HDM, done by remote. Case closed.
