I am a consultant and need to do some calculations that require typical pricing of basic, standard process inks. For the life of me I can't find any information on this after hours of searching on the web! Can someone give me ballpark pricing I can use for this? Ideally I'd like to have typical CMYK prices for a small, medium and large print shop, but whatever I get will be infinitely more than what I have now. I will be forever grateful for the help. :D

Larry,

I know how frustrating it can be breaking into the printing business. Seems like all of the information is a carefully guarded secret. (Try finding a simple operator's manual for under a hundred bucks.) And don't get me started on the prices of printing equipment! 400 bucks for a packing guage? 500 bucks for a plate punch? You gotta be kidding me.

These inks range from cheap to somewhat expensive. Hope it helps.

You can also call "Gans Ink Supply" if you're in the US...

  • Depends on what line of printing inks you need Conventional inks CYMK are cheaper then UV CYMK Conventional Average $10 $12 lb UV can average $15 and up on average per lb. Call Cabrun Ink for pricing

Affirmative. Depends on type of ink. Above post is correct. $10-$12 for most.
Metallics you might be in the high 13's per pound.

Get yourself a good MSDS sheet cause they will vary by supplier. Look at the raw material. Lean what feed stocks are involved, and using LME.com or other raw material feedstock sites you can start to learn to price yourself; knowing what the feedstocks are and what drives those prices will help you hedge pricing for your customers as the market fluctuates.

Pricing for process inks vary from region to region but locally in central Texas the set price is ranging from $15 to $21. The more expensive is due to strength and lower VOC content ink.
