Polar 92 EMC - can't find rerefence point

Good Morning Everyone

I'm new to the forum and I have a question.

Polar EMC 92 Monitor, machine number 5511860
After turning on the machine, the message "SCAN REFERENCE POINT" appears on the screen. After starting the feed, the backgauge moves forward and backward two times, but no dimension is displayed. The only way to work is by moving the backgauge, but without dimensioning.

- The power supply voltages seem to be OK
- The battery on the CP1 board has been replaced
- The encoder (LMS glass scale) has been properly cleaned
- The encoder cable has been checked
- The limit switches under the table are working (but may be in the wrong positions)
- During the reference point scan, LED15 on the PI board does not flash (LED15 does not light at all)
- The backgauge reaches a dimension of 20 mm (the manual states no less than 25 mm)

Some time ago, the program memory stopped working. Now, the message "MEMORY BANK FAULT: ERASE" has been displayed. The memory bank had a faulty battery, but replacing it didn't improve anything.

I don't know what else to check.
Could the LMS adjustment work?
Does the CP1 board or the PI board need replacing?

I would be grateful for any information. I know similar threads have been discussed on the forum, but the symptoms or messages usually differed slightly.

Hi sir:

1) Try to adjust the LMS

2) IN CPU BOARD RESET THE CPU.

3) TEST THE BOARD P1 See the :
V 15 red lights about 0.5 sec. when
reference point is overrun , Normally OFF.

4) Test the PS( regulated power supply ) IN TOLERANCE 0.7 % up or down, otherwise, the machine, will coming with different problems.

  • Thank You for the information

Is it worth trying to adjust the LSM?
What could be damaged in the LSM?
    Mechanically, it's functional and clean.

Slide the scanning module out of the aluminum/glass ruler. Normally the spring or bearings are broken. Make sure you know how to put it back.

Additional: Measure the regulated power supply in tolerance !

    Look carefully the diagram.

I disassembled the LSM and noticed that the reference point in the center of the glass scale was worn and probably unreadable by the scanner.
The scanner itself is also worn, and I think that's why the machine isn't finding the reference point.
A new LSM is available for purchase: https://mohr-shop.com/en/MEASURING-SYSTEM-92/22483/
I'm wondering if a rotary encoder could be used, as in the attached example.

You must buy all the system, otherwise, you will be with the doubt, in case that problem repeat. ok

Please do not waste time, and buy it.

Lms ruler is faulty, heidelberg/ polar charge a fortune. PREMIER GUILLOTINE SYSTEMS in the UK telephone 44 1274 4999832 can supply an alternative lms scale ruler direct swap for a fraction of heidegger price. Ring them ask For Peter Kennedy.

I replaced the LSM linear scale with a very good quality replacement. The machine is working flawlessly.
In the original LSM, the reference point in the center of the glass ruler had been worn away due to some friction.
That's why the machine couldn't find it.
Thank you for the information – some of it was very helpful.

  • Dear Sir,
Here's the contact information for the person I purchased the encoder (linear scale) from. I don't know if he has TAM cards or any electronics, but he was very helpful with information on how to install the new LSM.
Supplier details: CBR Electronics, email: electronics.cbr@gmail.com
