Hi guys, I‘m Tony from Germany. Need some help here. :)

A friend of mine (retired printer w some old eq) has a Polar 76 EM which worked 30+ years w/o issues. But now it has some kind of electrical failure. He’s bit desperate bc local technican told him about 3k+ for fixing this without any details. I’m no expert to this machines but I like to understand the problem and if 3k are justified.

So the polar has some kind of startup issue. After turning on the machine motor starts turning, everything works as it should be. Approx. 1-2 minutes the digits on the display leave for good, no more reaction to input, but motor still turns. If this is happening in a middle of a cut error 88 appears.
We removed the front plate. The moment the numbers leave, all LEDs on the boards are also gone. Currently this is repeating 4-5 times, then the machine is obviously „warm“ enough.

My hope is, that it‘s a simple known failure. Maybe switching a power distribution board or similar will help instead of investing the whole 3k€.

We already checked the carbon brushes.
    - they seem to be low, but still fine? Maybe the experts can give us a hint.

    Thanks in advance
    Tony

Sounds like a power supply getting hot or a bad connection on the fuse board. Send pics of display and what board the LEDs are going out on.
