"non certified operator'

Whats up fellow operators. I got hired on as a driver for a large printing company and quickly moved up the ranks to be the lead iGEN3 operator. I have been operating here and there on her for about 8 mos. now, but now have taken over the role as sole operator. Having no formal training, I have found myself learning pretty quickly from techs and another "NON CERTIFIED OPERATOR". The NCO...haha...took me under his wing and is showing me the ropes on preventive maintenance and quick problem solving techniques. The iGEN3 is really an awesome machine and more attached to her everyday. This forum is a nice source of info with some knowledgeable people on here. I'll definitely be sticking around...

Hey mikeGEN,

Welcome aboard. Great story. I've been an NCO before too. ;) The place I'm with now simply wanted to make it official tho, so I was sent thru the training course. It was a huge help (and not on my dime, which made it that much better). Well, you're in the right place. I've had a lot of great answers come to my tough questions.

Have fun & good luck.

  • Mike, a piece of paper can only take you so far. It sounds like if you're company is willing to have you operate a digital press worth 6-digits, you're probably sharp enough to pick up the skills you need by trial & error, and thru asking the right questions here on the forum. There's a wealth of knowledge & experience floating out around here. Definitely don't be afraid to use it! ...we got your back, lol.

Going from a Drive to a Igen Operator is a demotion in my book. I would die to be the delivery driver and away from these horrible machines that break down every day.

you sure you moved "UP"?? :)

I have one day of "here are the corotrons, clean them, here is the belt don't scratch it" training.

8 years of running the Nexpress helped

Ha. I was trained by a certified operator and got a similar quick bs training. He set me up to fail so that he had job security. In time I got good, and now I'm the lead operator. Oops.

  • Non Certified Operator

Ouch!!!! I feel for you guys. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. The outfit that I work for reached into there pockets and send me on a 2 week vacation to Xerox Training Center in Rochester to be certified. I'm sure the reason they spend the money is so they can save on Service Contract. If I could only get 50% of the savings I would be in heaven. Working at this place sometimes seems like hell.

Yeah I now what you mean... I wrote that a while ago... It all makes sense now...
