Newbie requiring a little help with booklets please

Afternoon all,

I hope someone may be able to help out here. I have recently taken on a Xerox DC 242 with pro finisher and fiery rip. I am trying desperately to get to grips with it but coming across headache after headache.

The latest involves producing an 8pp A5 booklet or more to the point the output settings to actually make it an 8 page booklet.

I have produced (just whilst I sort out the settings) a booklet in Adobe InDesign CC with quite simply page numbers 1 - 8. Document setup in InDesign has 8 pages at A5 set up as facing pages. I have the used the 'print booklet' option in order to try and sort the printing, stapling & folding.

So far i have been through countless options with the setup and can't for the life of me get it to output as it should. I have managed on one occasion to get it to staple and fold, but the pages were in the wrong order, I have had it duplexing fine but outputting at 'folded A6' size and every variation in between.

Can anyone give me any ideas as to correct settings to get me up and running with this? I have serious accelerated balding due to the hair pulling and really need to get my head around this.

Thank you all in advance for your input

Hi, Are you using Command Workstation with your Fiery?

If so there is an "Impose" feature that lets you create an imposed file set up in printers pairs ready for a booklet maker. (See attached) You just need them to be individual pages contained in a single PDF file, no need to worry about pre planning them in Indesign. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for that iGen, I am indeed running CW however it seems only a demo version of "Impose"..? Just followed the link to get a key.... only $2000.... a snip at twice the price..... however for now do you have any other ideas?

Imposition wise I have until recently been using impose online, which has worked fine for standard flat jobs but is a bit tedious for anything more as every change means you have to start the whole setup from scratch.

    Thanks again

Right in that case the Indesign route using the "Print Booklet" feature is the way to go imposition wise. Once thats created just make sure that when you print the file on the Xerox that its print order is "N to 1" and "Face Up". Thats all I can recommend as I've not had any experience with that particular booklet maker (We use Borg).
    Good Luck!!

send me your email id I will send you imposing plugin which works with acrobat and it will be easy for your to make booklets and do lots of other things.
