Need some help with a polar cutter problem

We recently had a "new to us" Polar 92 ED installed. Upon installation, the back gauge failed to engage high speed while positioning in automatic program mode or manual movements. No errors were recorded in diagnostics.

Our installer reported the following:
This malfunction was described to a Polar Specialist who suggested certain items be checked and advised that the fault may be due to a faulty frequency inverter which controls current to the backgauge motor.

An SAP backgauge drive positioning control board and a frequency inverter were ordered with Heidelberg parts. A Lenze programming unit was used on the frequency inverter to view and possibly change/correct settings, but the display on the programming unit did not illuminate and was unuseable, meaning the inverter is causing this or the programming unit itself is at fault .

The new SAP control was installed with no change or correction of the speed failure. A new inverter has been ordered but has not arrived at this time.

Heidelberg service was asked to provide service assistance as the Polar Specialist had no prior experience with this speed problem.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions at this point, it would be very welcome.

Thanks
Phil

Can you see the measuring position value on screen? Does the value change while the backgauge move forward or backward?

  • Hi sir;

    If the problem is now, with the Display is Not illuminating, check this;

    1) please if the Screen has baterry , and measure the voltage and replace it if have

    2) test the ribbon or flat cable for display and replace it , if necessary

    3) measure the high voltage for Display if there , aprox 208Vdc, depend of the mark of display,

    4) If everything is o.k clean the connectors, look for loose cable, corrosion, and Reset the CPU, in the Electronic board where is located the CPU, has small button for Reset.

    He is talking about the display on inverter not the main display.

    We can see the position value on the main screen. And it does change when we move the backgauge.
    The display on the programming unit does not display. We are waiting for a different inverter to arrive.

    If you can still move the backgauge, I would say the inverter is fine. Maybe the program panel is defective. Can you set any measurement? Would the backgauge move to that position?

    Hi sir;
    Follow the steps;

    If everything is o.k, the problem is Display LCD faulty.
