    Hello guys,

    Currently we're using a Xerox WC 7132 wich is more office printer and we plan on buying a used Xerox 240 / 242 / 250 / 252.
As these models have similar prices wich one should we consider more?
And most important can anyone help me on how to test the printer before we buy it?
I need to run 2-3 tests that are critical to see if the printer is in good condition.
Do you have any ideas about what printing jobs to run.
I am only interested if the printer has big issues that cost a lot of money to fix, but i don't know how to test it?
Any advice or opinion about these printers is highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Ciprian

The 242 is the update to the 240 and the 252 is the update to the 250 with later software fixes, etc. Same speed and basic image quality, but if the price is very close, get the later model with the later software, etc.

The 252 is 10 pages a minute faster than the 242 printing letter size sheets in color. I am not aware of any downside to the 252 compared to the 242 so that only depends on whether a slightly faster speed is worth whatever the price difference is to you.

I would have some solids and light screens (light blue, light green, light red, light magenta, light gray) printed as test prints, as well as some sample prints run from what you actually print. Prepare a quick pdf with the more difficult things you normally run. Photographs will tend to hide defects more than color blocks and screens.

I finally went to austria and found a new type of printer, it's the wc 7775. The seller said it's the same model as DC 252 with the same parts, it just doesn't have Fiery. It's still in the trailer, i will install it on Monday. If you have any info on this model please post. apreciate it.

I believe the workcenter is the same print engine, but I'd pay a bit more to have the docucolor for the RIP options. The workcenter line are more office-oriented whereas the docucolor 2xx and 5xx line are the little-brothers to the docucolor production line. (The toners and such indiciate they are the same and will work in both the docucolor and workcenter)

ok, so we installed the printer today and already deal with a few issues:
    1. i can't print from corel draw (i select from the printer driver A3 size and in corel i have A3 layout, i select fit to page), but it prints on an A3 paper, centered A4.
    2. specs are 2400 x 2400 resolution but in the printer driver it sais 600 dpi.

Can anyone help me on these?

Install the most recent driver from xerox.com website. As I said it is office equipment and you dont have many options for printing selections.

I have no experience with the workcenter, but to print to our docucolor 242 correctly from coreldraw, we have to use the PPD file.
See if you can download a PPD file for your printer from xerox (sometimes referred to as a pagemaker ppd file) and then in coreldraw check "use PPD." The drawback is that you don't get the nicer xerox GUI; instead the settings are all presented on one long page. But I have no problems printing if I use the PPD from coreldraw; without it my docucolor with fiery refuses to print the correct (specified) orientation from coreldraw x3, x4, or x5.
