Hey all,

wondering if anyone in the tristate area had experience with these machines and was willing to help out. We purchased a Martini FK-IV from Hamburg, Germany and have been trying to get it operating. It runs nice and the machine is clean, but we aren’t sure how to set it up properly for a proper original stitch. We are as well, having difficulty figuring out how to cut apart the book blocks so they maintain their integrity and do not fall apart. Any advice would be greatly welcomed. As well as any manuals or videos. Thank you!

  • Hello Jose, thank you for your reply. We are still having issues adjusting, the stitch tightness. As well, we are still having trouble figuring out where to cut apart the books when they are still attached to the machine and to each other. Do you have any videos you might be able to send. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached is a picture of our most recent progress. Thank you.

    Dear Sir,
I've seen the first photos you sent, and it seems to me that the book stitching needs to be tightened a little more. Typically, when the stitching is loose, the following adjustments are required.
    1. Check if the thread tightening lever is in the correct position. Often, when the initial thread adjustment is being made, the operator forgets to return the lever to the working position.
    2. The knives that hold the sheet after it has been stitched must be correctly positioned. To tighten the stitching, the knives must be pressed a little more against the edge of the sheet. The knives must be very sharp.
    3. Check the thread tension. If the tension is too loose, the book stitching will be loose. Check each one individually. This adjustment is made with the pressure release lever in the working position. From the base of the needle, each thread is manually pulled and the pressure is checked. A pressure of approximately 4 to 6 kilos is required to pull the thread.
The quality of the thread is very important, as the correct percentage of cotton and nylon is required for best performance.
Let me tell you that this machine, although it looks easy to operate, certainly requires a great deal of skill from the operator. Most problems are easily resolved with a good operator.

    Jose,

thank you for your in depth response. This is very helpful. Do you by chance have a manual you could send for this machine? Currently we are trying to find out the correct needle pattern for the regular stitch, do you have any advice? Thank you for taking the time.
    Best,

    Jose,

You’re the best. Thank you so much. If you could find a manual it is a Martini FK-IV. We are still having trouble locating the knives and where they are installed on the machine, seeing that this helps create tension on the book block, we are still having loose blocks.

    thank you so much.

  • Hello everyone,

Yesterday I had the opportunity to acquire a Müller Martini FK IV, and I’m currently looking for the operation and maintenance manuals, as well as the machine’s parts catalog.

I would like to know if anyone here has been able to obtain any of these documents. I read that someone had them available, so I was wondering if you could help me with this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!;)
