Main Brake Error Signal

    Thought I'd put this up as a new thread...

    Our intermittent 'Peep!' is coming from the Main Brake Error siren on the main control cabinet.

    Anyone got any ideas as to what's going on? Is there something out of adjustment...there's nothing in the manual about it.

    The beep is probably caused by the brake wear sensor microswitch. If the brake still has sufficient pad material, you can slightly adjust the microswitch to stop the alarm but it would be better to adjust the brake clearance. Komori had a memo on setting the brake clearance but I don't have it. Perhaps you can get it from your dealer.

    There is usually a feeler guage, with two leaves, attached to the brake housing. One leaf is for the brake clearance when closed and the other is for the open clearance. With a little study, you can deduce which one is which.

    Often, unskilled technicians will simply adjust the switch so that the alarm doesn't sound but if the brake is worn, this can cause a safety hazard.

    A little tip I picked up over the years is to tape a rag over the warning sounder.Failing that cut the wires on the microswitch.

    Much like the little "squeaker" tabs on you car's brake pads. When they start to make noise, just break them off and don't worry about it. It'll be OK until they start to grind, then just replace the discs and calipers.

    Modern materials are great. In the old days we used bubble gum and bailing wire to fix almost anything. Now we have duck tape and tie wraps.

    I believe the brake should be set to 0.3mm you should see some 24mm nuts and on the backside there are 24mm jam nuts to lock the adjustment as klecman says there should be a feeler gage attatched to the motor it may have 3 blades 0.3mm .5mm and 1mm.
