Magenta spitting

NY PRINTING

I'm just starting to run a igen3 and the magenta is spitting everywhere. i got the retrofit and did not see that much of a difference . I also clean the whole inside then i was able to get only about 130 sheets before it comes back . If anyone has some ideas i would be more then happy thanks .

I'd make a service call. Have the tech show you how to get inside the developer unit and do a real good cleaning.

The tech may also see another issue that is causing the spitting.

  • Post a picture of what it is doing so we have a better idea of what you are talking about. I'd suggest doing a massive cleaning on the inside of the machine, especially around the magenta unit.

    Toner spitting

    Magenta spitting...

The most common color the do this is magenta.
Spitting can be caused if magenta is over toned (the least likly) or toner bridging up and falling out of the developer housing (mostlikly).

Toner builds up or falls out due to lack of vaccum.
    So,
Have you checked the final filter located just to the left of the toner waste bottle?
When you clean the housing do you clean the upper and lower manifold?
How do the seals look on the manifolds?
I use a 1.5 in folded up piece of paper and wiggle it around in the manifold vaccum chanel to lossen the toner as I vaccum.

a how is the machine vented..any kind of back pressure will cause trouble!! also we found the igen 3 to be very sensitive to temp and humidity!!

Thank you all vary much iv done just about everything suggested and have found that i have to clean the doner roll center baffle (aka)55k34512 of the magenta every three days thanks again .

    NY PRINTING,

Interseting I havent seen or thought of the center baffle as a cause of spitting.
Donor Roll Center Baffle Alt PN 604K42070. I do clean the center baffle when I'm cleaning the manifolds I don't recall it building up toner on it though sometimes a little developer mostly on the ends...

I would like to see a close up picture of the spitting.
I think of there as being three sources to the general problem.
    1) Toner falling out of the developer housing. ie. Build up/bridging on the manifold/baffles ,due to lack of vaccum or cleaning.
    2) Runnig the housing over toned.
    3) Environment. Now for environment I'm not talking about the outside of the printer. I mention this and this is why I would like to see a picture because what you call spitting may be "Streaks". I think of this as being more common.
Streaks can be caused by developer or toner beads on the donor roll getting trapped in the 8 wire modules.
For streaks in Magenta ONLY, check the right X-Tower Temp rightTowerTemp nvm loc 7430 and the Left X-Tower Temp leftTowerTemp nvm loc 7429) See if the temperature difference is greater than 5 degrees F. If this is the case you must resolve the temperature problem first.

    Lastly
I didn't mention gremlins before but worthy mention.
As an operator my personal favorite was the paper gremlin.
Yes the temperature and humidity gremlins are a colse second.
They are more technical TECH excuses as to why they cant fix the problem.

I have ran an iGen3 in a open warehouse 60-90 degrees with both high and low humidity outside the press. Keep in mind that the iGen has a ecology/aka A/C unit on the backside which takes care of the inside of the press. Air conditioners automatically act as dehumidifiers when they chill the air. This will cause paper problems feeding, deletions mostly so a humidifier maybe needed.

    Hey iGenTech-

Could you explain further what these "gremlins" are? You've got me intrigued. Its the first I've heard of them.

Have issue here where the toner isn't going down the tube to the trickle bottle and has been collecting under the Dev unit.
I'm getting an upgraded tube and vacuum kit.
Hoping the spitting issues go away.

You can vacuum the developer out of the trickle tube from the top. Then feed a 10 gage wire down the tube to brake up any thing that is stuck. The wire should all the way to the waste bottle.

As far as other causes of spitting or streaking not listed before. There is a trimmer bar for the mag roll that is in the top of the developer housing under the top manifold. The bar can sonetimes be adjusted but is mostlikly worn completly out.

  • I like Gremlins. :) I get bad magenta spitting after running vinyl paper. Toner/developer ends up built up on that little blade before transfer. If I forget about cleaning it, or ignore the magenta streaks, eventually this build up becomes a fuser mess, and I have to scrub the pressure roller as well.

"The notion of gremlins was first conceived during World War II, when mechanical failures in aircraft were jokingly blamed on the small monsters. The term "gremlins" also entered popular culture as children's author Roald Dahl published a book called The Gremlins in 1943, based on the mischievous creatures.[3] (Walt Disney considered making a film of it. A Bugs Bunny cartoon of the era has him battling a gremlin on an airplane.) Joe Dante had read The Gremlins, and claimed that the book was of some influence on his film. In 1983, Dante publicly distanced his work from earlier films, explaining, 'Our gremlins are somewhat different—they're sort of green and they have big mouths and they smile a lot and they do incredibly, really nasty things to people and enjoy it all the while'.[4][5]"
