iRC5180/H1 Image Quality Issues

I am printing from a Mac, running Snow Leopard. I have tried outputting the same file from Quark 7.5 and Indesign CS3. Both outputs give me blasted images, clean fonts; but the fonts are bolder by almost a point. I am using true font types (TT, PS). Not faux fonts.

These problems didn't start happening until a little over a year ago. Before I upgraded to the new system. I have had techs out since, too. They look at the feed belt, switch out drums and still the images and fonts look bolder. The work they do clean up the blasting a bit, but we just live with the font issue. The boss says no more, today.

Images are standard EPS files with uncoated PMS colors and no stroke, standard TIFF's, JPEG's and PNG files. I even tried outlining the fonts in the logos, but I get the same results. Bolder and blasting.

I was starting to think that the problem is with the way I setup the files. But we've had two other Canons here, both CLC machines. I have never had these issues with the CLC's.

I've done auto gradation, full and quick. Still the same issue. Even calibrated color on the RIP, itself. The Tech never seems to find or solve the issue, completely. I'm always left with "It's just the way it is". Any help would be appreciated. Try to provide a lot of detail in your response. Thank you.
