This applies to gold metallic with aqueous coating. Anyone ever run into this before?

this can happen if you have to much water or the ink and coating are not compatable

I'm curious what exactly happened to the appearance of the gold? Did it change shade or did the AQ knock out the metallic? Was the AQ gloss or matte?

    Hi sir
Printing gold metallic ink with aqueous coating can be challenging due to the unique properties of metallic inks. Ensure the press conditions are optimal, with proper ink-water balance and controlled temperature and humidity. Experiment with different aqueous coatings, as some may interact better with metallic inks than others. Consider consulting your ink and coating suppliers for specific recommendations tailored to your equipment and conditions. It might also be helpful to collaborate with experienced press operators or technicians who have expertise in handling metallic inks with aqueous coatings.

If color match and metallic properties are super critical I would suggest a press proof or at the very least a draw down from your ink company with the EXACT products being used in the production run to include paper. It doesn't require all that much effort or time to throw a little metallic ink into the press and swap out for the correct coating at the end of a shift with the plates that are already on the press.

In most cases, water-based inks should not behave like this
