In addition to the print quality and lightfastness of Epson ink, one other thing I really appreciate is the waterproof quality of epson ink (whereas previous HP ink prints have been damaged by a single drop of rain). Are the new Designjet Z3100 Vivera pigment inks waterproof to the same degree as Epson inks?

Yes the new HP vivera ink is as waterproof as the Epson . Of course if you want to make a print more durable Iwould still suggest using some type of spray like Moabs Desert varnish of something of that type .

Yes, the z2100/z3100 use pigmented inks and are water proof. However, you still will need to get a media that is a water proof media. If you use a photo paper that is not water proof the inks will still come off, but that will be expected with any printer. Sprays like the clearjet from clearstar are a good liquid lamination as well.

hp designjet z2100, z3100 and z3200 series of photo printers use Vivera pigment inks which are waterproof and fade resistant for up to 200-years subject to correct media use. You can further protect canvas type of media using 3P Matte Canvas Liquid Coating 1lt Bottle, cost about £30.00 plus VAT or may laminate if necessary.
