We are looking for a way to store our Heidelberg SM52 aluminum plates for when we need to re-use them for printing in an organized, easy to handle way.

We looked inro buying the Filling/folder systems for plates, and some of these places were pretty expensive considering the amout of folders we would have to buy to justify our need.

Just curious if anyone has any ideas on how to store them, any home-made set ups?
Thanks in advance!

i just had a carpenter build us a wooden rack, store them in that, with a sample and the date the job was last printed. a sheet of yellow paper separates each month. easy to find then in conjunction with our MIS. nothing special. i even have some just leaning up against a wall.

  • Thats a half size plate, easy , take some padding board and fold it in half & duck tape the edge. Print yourself up some stickers that you can put the docket #, date for history, stock, etc. Like KGM build a wooden rack , I've always liked numerical order myself, keep it out of direct sunlight.:)

Thanks for the info guys, that kinda what I was leaning towards was doing the wooden rack as well. Looks like i'll be bringing my carpenter skills with me to work this week!
Good tip with keeping it out of the sunlight!

We have been using our old wooden rack also that we used to store our films in. We always put the plates in chipboard folders before storing to eliminate scratching. Don't forget to gum them good!
