Oh, this is worst case.
If the machine has a ´fully automatic system´ normally it is possible to restart the process to go back to straight. Just try this

  • As Joe mentioned, getting stuck mid-changeover is a stressful situation, but the fact that the machine won't turn by hand means the mechanical safety interlocks have engaged to prevent cylinder damage. Do not force the machine to turn by hand with a bar, as this can cause severe mechanical misalignment or break the gear teeth.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this:

    • Reset the Sequence: Go to your Prinect Press Center / CP2000 screen. Clear the errors and try to command the machine to return to straight printing mode (single-sided). Sometimes, simply restarting the sequence allows the automatic system to re-engage the racks and pinions properly.
    • Check Air Pressure: The perfecting changeover mechanism relies heavily on pneumatics to unlock and lock the internal pins and mechanisms. Verify that your main air compressor is running and that there is sufficient air pressure reaching the perfector unit. A slight drop in air pressure mid-cycle will instantly halt the process.
    • Inspect Proximity Sensors: Look closely at the perfecting unit. There are inductive proximity sensors that read the position of the gears and locking pins. If a sensor is covered in anti-setoff powder, paper dust, or ink, it might not send the confirmation signal to the console. Clean the sensors with a rag.
    • Diagnostic Screen: Go into the service/diagnostic menu on your console and look at the perfector sensors. The screen will usually tell you exactly which step the sequence failed on (e.g., "locking pin not engaged" or "rack out of position").
    • Manual Override (Use with Caution): If the automatic reset does not work, the SX74 has a procedure for manual changeover/recovery using the special hand crank tool on the operation side of the perfecting unit. However, you must follow the exact sequence in the Heidelberg manual to manually unlock and align the reversing drum. If you are not familiar with this timing process, it is highly recommended to call a Heidelberg technician, as doing it incorrectly will crash the units.
Check the console for the specific error code (usually an F-code or a sensor number) and let us know what it says!
