Hello,
we are looking for someone that can assist us in locating an issue that has been going on for more than 4 days and nobody is able to find the problem. We have a CD102 4 + L Coater press located in Canada. Year is 2017. This is a European press which was 1st installed in Germany in late 2018. We installed in July, 2023 and it has been operating as a charm with only 36m impression. Until this week.... So following are some of the most recent events.

We had a power outage about 2 weeks ago while in production, so we had to manually take out the sheets and clean the AQ coating unit. After that incident, everything has been working fine. Last Wednesday we finished our evening shift and cleaned the AQ unit and replaced the blades. The press was idled with the power on. The next morning, the operator pressed on the run button it rotated a few times and suddenly It stopped. We are constantly getting
A) Main Drive Malfunction errors
B) Illegal movement of main drive.

Once in a while the following error also appears.
C) DSD of pulling device.
D) Motor Break

The Heidelberg technician removed the double sheet options and still nil luck. After looking at the errors he suggested we replaced the main drive encoder ont he MOTOR. which costs 4400$USD !
Friday we received the encoder and replaced it with the technician. The problem is still the same.
He then suggested to replaced the Encoder on unit 1, operator side ad the cables.

We also looked through the double sheet detectors, in case a piece of paper is interfering but nothing.
What is weird is that in some cases we can get the press to run for a 5 seconds and sometimes it stops within 2 seconds. Same applies with the Jogging option. When we tried running it with he CRAWL option it actually rotated for 10 turns and then it stopped.

The "Main drive error " Appears and suddenly disappears as if it resets itself. Because it does not remain in the main screen menu accessed when selecting the wrench button.

There have been talks about possibly replacing the Main drive board also which costs over 50,000$
This makes no sense for such a new machine,

Im not confident this will be resolved quickly and wanted to know if someone else can assist.

Please help we are about to lose our biggest client :-( !

I have uploaded some of the errors.

  • Thank you for your quick reply. Yes it has. I actually just started the press and it rotated about 10 cycles and then suddenly you hear the press trying to increase speed and the suddenly it stop. The maid Drive error appears and disappears in a flash. It's as if it resets itself. Im not sure if the belt is lose, but there are no squeeckie noise it appears perfect. Do you think it can be related to a poser supply ? 24 Volt. ?

Trust me, it is as simple as a roller has gotten out of place. Could be an ink roller, could be a water roller. If you manage to to mechanically disconnect unit 1 and run then mechanically disconnect unit 2 and run and so on for the rest. You will figure out where is the roller that keeps the drive from running. The main drive is protecting itself.

Ive been there and done that.

    Kind regards and good luck,

It's annoying me as f.. People asking for help and then if they have sorted the problem they don't give a st to get back here and let us know that problem has been solved and how they solved it. Or they asking for help, and then they say - 'ok the problem is sorted' without telling us how they sorted it.:(

Yes, it's always very much appreciated when people take the time to follow up their post and let other members know if, and details on how they have solved the problem. It is very much appreciated.

These are the very same people who will keep coming back every time they have a problem. They do this because they work for companies that place no value on actually hiring competent help. They will run their presses with guys that have been promoted off the broom until their lack of experience gets them in a jam. Then they will run to an online forum to get bailed out without having to incur the cost of a visit from a tech. They will then disappear until the next time they get jammed up. They offer no value or contributions to the forum. They only take and never give.

  • Some days, the shorter-and-shorter-attention-span transactional world can get depressing. But I still fundamentally believe in people helping people. When it works, it makes it all worthwhile.
I helped someone with a simple software configuration this week and after a hard day, it was really nice when they thanked me for saving the day and offered to hire me (even though I'm not currently looking for such work, it was really nice. It may be more rare in the current era than in the "good old days" but it's still really nice when you can feel great about helping other people when it works.)
