Heidelberg 2005 Heidelberg 74- 2 colour

Hi .
Do you know if there is anyway I can adjust the grip pressure on the manual version?
I have soaked in penetrative oil over the weekend but I am not so sure that will help.
Could the problem lie somewhere else?
If I remove the screws as shown in Photo would this all pop out?Is it spring loaded?
Excuse the mess of machine as doing another of colour changing all morning and no time to wipe.
Thank you
A

  • Oops, just saw them. From the condition, it's not surprising you are experiencing problems. Typical of today's print shop management, produce and punch out with no thought of daily maintenance.

Likely, under the front clamp will be an eccentric shift. There should be no spring action to be concerned with when removing. Also possible that given the ink build up on outside, the gripping area is also filled with ink residue. If removed, the zeroing register pins will have to be repositioned as part of the reinstall. This is all conjecture, just drawing off experience working with older press model clamps.

Allister please post a picture of the plate clamp.on some manual clamps the parts inside can be replaced.silver colored plates for each section .

    Hi Junker.
The photo actually makes it look much worse than it is.The operator usually does keep it reasonably clean or I be giving off.
I wanted to clean it a little before taking photo but had not time at that moment
Yes there is an essentric shift and as far as I can see there is no build up of ink.
Will take more of look around it when I get back in on Monday.
    Thanks

Another thought, depending on moisture migration under clamp down to eccentric shaft and seat it rides in, I’ve seen rust eaten away at both, not allowing enough motion to fully close clamp. Also, is there a slot in the heads of the Allen bolts you show? Seems I recall on 40” presses the slotted caps, when turned, exerted more clamp pressure???

Yes if I turn them clockwise it does excert more pressure.
Was thinking of removing them all and cleaning and checking for corrison.
    Thank you for your help

Apologies Alistair, I obviously missed that part.

My (new) guess is the eccentric has worn a bit, so not enough pressure is being applied onto plate.
If when tightening the clamp, with the lever bar, and if it's moving up to the top of the movement it's probably not putting enough pressure on.
To check, after loading a plate, place a strip of thin plastic/packing into the clamp, then it may feel more solid when you tighten it.
Slight guess work from me, but I'd think you'd be able to remove the clamping mechanism without interfering with the register pins.

As an aside, I've never witnessed a press in a state like that. Washing up the rollers should not be causing that. Time for new wash-up blades perhaps...

    Hi Steve.
But I can see clearly that the plate moves in the clamp after x amount of sheets.
The problem surely has nothing to do with the register motors.

    Hi Steve.
It is not usually as dirty I must admit.I am not the operator or it would be spotless.
The wash up blade has been replaced recently
Is it a big job replacing the eccentric?
    Thanks for replying

I wouldn't really know regarding the replacement to be honest. Possibly not too big though, if as I think, the register pins wouldn't be affected, and there won't be any springs to worry about in this type of clamp.
As I mentioned, try putting a strip of something in the clamp to bulk it up. That should help with your diagnosis, one way or the other.

If new wash-up blades have been put on recently, then if it's an auto roller wash system, the wash settings need altering, and if it's a manual wash-up system, your operator needs to go easy with the wash fluid, especially on the operator side :-)

    Hi Steve
Yes the auto system is not going at the moment .
Will tell him to ease off on ut for now
    Thanks

    Hi Adil.
Will have to check of the operator?
    Are you thinking pressure?
Surely the pressure adjustment on side of machine can sort that.
Both units running with same packing and pressure.
Anything else cause it,like and inking roller pressure or bearing gone
