Harris offset press

I'm a little out of my depth here, but here goes: I've just had a harris offset press fall into my arms. I beleive it to be a one color machine, but not sure. I'd like to save it or see someone end up with it that could use it or use parts off of it. It was in the printing shop of a college paper, and is believed to still have working up until fairly recently. I hate to see things go to waste, and I'd like to see someone get some use out of it. However, I have no idea of the value or what would be fair to ask for it. Any suggestions and information are greatly appreciated! Lawnxscape@yahoo.com 318.729.2384

  • Have you checked the open moving parts for human finger remains? Astonishes me that I was able to get through my early career with all 10 digits still intact after working n some of them old presses!!!

For sure! One cut knuckle tendon and the tip of my right pointer finger is all I experienced through 30 years.

I am the executive director of the National Newspaper Association and am helping a publisher desperate for help with a Harris 1650. I went down a worm hole and found this site. Can anyone give me guidance on how to find someone willing to help him? It is in Lawton, Oklahoma and he is willing to pay good money!

Hi Lynne, I know a couple dismantlers/movers out that way and several dealers who might be interested. Is he looking to sell it or scrap it?

Does it happen to be like the one in this video? Do you know when their final run is?

I think I saw this ad on FB marketplace too. Have you tried talking to any of the commercial shops around? They might take it just to use for parts if they're still running anything like that. I'd start there. I agree it's awful to see such things smelted down but sometimes, there is no other choice. I know a guy who was selling an eight unit GOSS Community in the same boat and I think he ultimately had no choice but to scrap sadly.

Thank you so much for responding! He is hoping to continue using it and needs someone that knows what they are doing to come look at it...
