Hello, I was hoping someone could give me a quick rundown of the muscle wheels on a goss comminity 4hi tower please. single width.

do they tend to require constant adjustment throughout different runs to keep the base of the page in register or should it be a case of once set they stay as they are?

I'm having quite a lot of trouble with paper stretching and losing register and the edges of the web. im partly putting blame down to a cheaper newsprint but wondering how much this is generally used as an adjustment by you?

thanks very much for the help

When I ran the Goss Community heatset 4 high back in the early 90's registration was always moving. The infeed working correctly and a clean bottom of the press roller are critical for keeping good register. As you mention, the cheaper grades of newsprint will give you more problems. A bigger problem to good registration is the large blanket gap and lack of bearers. This design is just not intended for tight registration.

That said, you can still achieve fair registration through good adjustments and keeping the critical parts in good working condition. You will likely always have to closely monitor the bustle wheels though.

We used to have Banana Rollers installed on the bottom of cyan units, it was troublesome and time taking to do adjustments on the run. We gave up and replaced them with iron pipe rollers, threw out the bustle wheels. For it was much easier to get a new plate instead with precise fan out setting preset for different stock and sizes
