Excessive Buildup Underneath PR Belt

The past several PRB changes I've noticed an unusually heavy amount of ozone/dust buildup on the rollers and backer bars. It also tends to clump together in the same areas, leaving streaks of lines on the underside of the belt. The technician mentioned there was a bad batch of PRBs recently, which may be the cause. While that may be true, I'm not fully sold on that explanation

Just wondering if someone knows any more info that could be helpful.

Sounds to me that there may be something wrong with the dirt removal system. I have never had anything more than a light dusting on rollers & backer bars. I work in the same general area as you and have not heard of any issues with bad PR Belts.

Yeah, I'm sure something is going on. You might have the same techs as I do, haha. It's not easy to get them to investigate non-urgent problems such as these.

My techs come out of Buffalo. I'm XPP trained and take care of all preventive maintenance. I keep in close contact with techs by cell usually to order parts.

Dirt buildup is normal, paper dust toner etc. At what life are you changing the PRB's?

I've not heard of any duff belts here (UK) yet. Which belts are you using 1R591's, or 1R611's

1R611, It's been around 100K when high Image Quality is needed. 20-50% halftones become weak very quickly.

Presume iGen4 as your using 611's. If iGen3 there lies your problem - 591's only on an iGen3

Something is not right only getting 100K out of the belt. Usual life is over 1 mill

Unfortunately, it seems it's easier for a tech to tell us to replace them (saving them the hassle of troubleshooting). We also run a lot of low coverage black only (junk mail), so we do get good life out of our belts on average.

Oh well.

I was getting a similar problem on a igen 3 and the build up was causing deletion lines on the print outs in the process direction. I found cleaning around the ATA with anti-staic fluid when changing belts seemed to resolve the problem and since then the problem has never come back.

We don't have an ATA on our machine, but the tech still recommended cleaning the area where the ATA would go. And sure enough there was a lot of silky-smooth buildup on the underside between the big and little black PR drive rolls. I never knew about this before! BAM, another problem solved.
