Hi, i'm interested of making business cards by colorig the edges. Do you have any idea of how doing it? is it has to be pressed between cards first and then coloring it manual? does it going to make the paint throughthe edges and make the crds dirty?
is has to be trim or we just need to die cut it first to make the edges straight?
thanks for replying

Not familiar with "edge painted" business cards. Can you post a photo of what you want the finished product to look like?

  • Xfactor, there are books that when closed, edge of the book is gold - that is what I think yvonne wants to do. So lets say you open the box of business cards and edges are colored... first thin comes to mind- press them hard and use spray paint that evaporated/dries superquick so it would stay on edge only without soaking in to paper fibers.

on second thought I may did not understand the question as I have just received an order form eastern europe for Paint for the sheet printing and Paint for the reel printing :) I am guessing they want Ink for SheetFed and WEB presses, so maybe this guy wants not just color the edges but to print an image on the edge of the business cards stack (I hope it is stack not a single card )

    Hi,

Yes, this (coloured) card is glued between the prints and then trimmed resulting in a clean finish.

This is often referred to (in the UK) as duplexing.

Hmmm, really? How about just printing on other side of the card?

No - this would make it a double sided cards without a different colour on the edge.
Duplexing can be likened to sandwiching a different coloured card in the middle of your prints.

For example, if you wanted a gold "edge", you would typically print side (however many up) on 1 sheet. On another sheet, print the other side.
Then glue a gold sheet in the middle of these 2 sheets.
When you trim them, the middle would be gold.
Note the coloured sheet has to be that colour throughout the material (some sheets are white when you cut them - which wouldn't work.

    Hi Yvonne,

From looking at the picture - I can only see a red edge. Therefore, I can think of 2 processes that could have achieved this:
    1) Duplexing - where white paper or card has been printed and then glued on to the red card.
    2) Foiling - where white foil has been "printed" on to the red card. You have probably seen silver/gold foil used in greeting cards. There are lots of colours that been used for foiling.

Hi all, thanks for your response. i'm no good in describing it. so maybe this link will help.

in this picture we can have variations of color (not just gold). Do you guys think that this comes from an offset ink like usual? and all we do is 'duplexing' it?

    Hi Yvonne,

Maybe it is just my eyes - but the commonality between all these pictures appears to be duplexing with different coloured card - and then embossing?
Maybe if you can speak to the printer who did these, they can give you better advice (or confirm the above)?

    Thanks

    Hi Yvonne,

This is becoming a more popular feature of busines cards to make them stand out. Generally we spray the cut set, and wait for it to dry. You can create the sandwich effect thru duplexing, but for a solid colour on all sides, spraying is the best way. If you want us to produce a sample set to show you, please let me know. Best W, Neil

    Hi Neil,

thanks for your response. What kind of sprayer you use? Could I pick anycolors i want or just the one you available? Sure I would love to have a sample set from you.
