Docucolor 252 Service

I have a Docucolor 252 that I purchased our right a few years ago through a Xerox Dealer and it is not on a service contract. Now I'm having trouble finding a Dealer that will service this machine.

I'm quite competent at electronics, etc, but there seems to be steep learning curve to repairing my own machine.

The first question is how would I go about learning the diagnose and repair my own machine?

The problem at hand is when I print from computer to the machine I am getting a 045-310 error, unless the file size is quite small.

That particular error could be caused by a few things. One, the file - if you can successfully print some files, but not others, the issue could exist in the file type or the driver.

sometimes a loose network cable can cause the error, but since you’re able to print some items, this may not be the case.

a more likely issue is you need to update your firmware.

lastly, if that doesn’t work, you may have a bad engine control board.

    Biggs,

Thanks! I have updated software on the Fiery, but how do I update the firmware on the machine itself?

Usually a technician will bring a laptop or jump drive with the proper package of files, connect the laptop directly to the internal computer, and boot the machine with a service mode command. As the machine restarts, it will pull the new files and update accordingly to the firmware package.

getting access to these files as well as getting the service mode instructions could prove a bit difficult. They often come from a portal that only the OEM employees, particularly certified techs, have access to.

we have quite a few Xerox techs that communicate on this forum, perhaps someone would like to chime in?

Installing the software is quite simple, its done through the Centerware Services. Type in the IP address of the printer on a cpu that's on the network. Then look for the Xerox logo in the bottom right.
