The 242 is putting horizontal (perpendicular to the sheet path) magenta bands and scum marks on sheets when running black prints/copies. It does not do it on color prints as long as there is color being laid down. This is the fourth time this has happened with this machine. The Xerox techs solution was to replace the machine the previous three times. Has anyone had this problem and been able to correct it?

Also, I'd like to get out of this lease with Xerox. Has anyone ever been able to do that? The first time the machine had to be replaced 3+ years ago we were forced to sign a new five year lease on a used machine. We were in the middle of a project at the time and we could not switch from digital production to offset. The local xerographics store where the lease was purchased from tried to harass me into "upgrading" to a 700, but I refused. Even though the 700 was fairly new at the time I'd heard nothing but horror stories about it. So... I would like to upgrade to a Konica Minolta C6000 or C7000 but I want to get out of this lease with xerox before I take that step. Any suggestions?

You can buy pws with service manual and disgnostic software and make selfservice or with a friend help.
The cost of pws stuff is not so great.

Can you post a small scan online of a sample print for others to see your problem exactly?
Old drums can have the issue of splotches/streaks of color being put down on black and white print jobs, but replacing the old color drum fixes it. I've had drums that should have 10-20% life left in them start putting down splotches of color on bw jobs and had to be replaced.
