    I outsource all my printing.

Considering a press for some of our jobs.

    Typical jobs:

    doorhangers: 10pt ; 500-5000 quantities (4x11, 3.5x8.5)
    postcards: 10pt ; 500-10,000 quantities ( 5.5x8.8 & 4x6 )

    my priorities in order are:
    1. low cost.
    1a. easy direct mail use..import of list/barcodes
    2. decent speed..doesnt have to be blazing fast
    3. image quality..not top priority

would be running average of 5,000 5.5x8.5 postcards a day.
(dont know if i can get 2 or 4 up on typical sheet?)

your suggestions of make/models machines i should consider is highly valued.

thanks...the more insight you provide the better. thanks..

You posted this in the igen forum, so I'm assuming you have a few hundred thousand dollar budget to get started? Is this correct?

I don't know if you're being serious or kidding, and I didn't mean to be patronizing with my first post in this thread (sorry). If you do have an ample budget, by all means get a great machine. Most people coming here want to do a job like this on way too small a machine rather than 'going all the way' when buying, so your first post struck me as unusual for the typical requests that come in. I run postcards 4-up on 12x18 stock. The average of 5000 5.5 x 8.5 postcards a day would only be 1250 sheets a day, printed both sides would be 2500 prints a day or 75000 prints per month. And I take it this will be on 12pt stock so that is more demanding of the machine.

To maintain 75,000 12x18 prints a month long-term (5,000 5.5 x 8.5 x 2 sides / 4up x 30 days) I think you'd need 4 of this size machine due to the heavy postcard stock. I believe the recommended monthly volume (long term) for these is 25,000 sheets of plain paper weight.

P.S. are both the front and back in color?

Is there variable data on both sides of these postcards?

    Color front & back.
The only variable data is the address & barcode.
(but would want ability to do variable pieces when needed )

it would be run 5 days a week. would want a machine that could handle
up to four 5,000 postcard jobs a day, if needed.

we'd be printing on 10pt primarily.

my goal is to get pointed in the right direction...make/model, then start looking for the right deal.

( also , not sure what else would be needed to do postcards..cutter obviously..any other bigger ticket items? )
