Digital UV Coatings

I am most familiar with the EA toner that Xerox uses on their Docucolor line. I have gotten this UV coated with great results. However I am wanting to learn more about the effects of oil based toner and UV coating.

I know that the Konica Minolta 6500 uses an oil based toner that will not allow certain UV coatings to adhere to the substrate, especially in heavy toner coverage areas. I do know that some coatings do exist that will work with the oil-based toners.

I guess I am requesting any input on the topic. Has anyone encountered this yet? I appreciate any insight.

If you find out about a coating that works please let me know. I have had some luck by pre-heating the UV Coating to 90 degrees,
 
    • On our "veri-coat-uv 1800" we have recently been successful in coating one side of the output from the 650's and 6500's.
    If you have some sample sheets we would be happy to coat and return.

    I have laminated (one side) thousand prints from KM 6500 with no problems. I use a GMP laminator at 120 Celsius points. There are diferent kind of films. One which is called "digital" is for color machines using oil, and another one called "industrial" for machines that do not use oil, such as KM 6500.
     
    The Konica Monolta toner is quite difficult to UV Coat. However A UV coater with an IR Dryer prior to the coat works great. There is a UV Coater that is available at lloydsofindiana.com that uses this technology.
     
    we have a xerox 252, and it is nearly impossible to laminate on anything with more than 50% coverage, although it will seem as if it has worked, it will peal of after a couple of weeks.
    We have been UVing on a screen printing bed, the only issue here is that if you dont get the formula for the UV 100% it can start to crack on heavy coverage.

    these guys claim they have solved the problem, but I havnt seen a machine running

    The UV Coating system from Tec-Lighting has IR heaters to promote the adhesion on the Xerox 240, 250 and 260 series. and the Konica Monolta machines. There is also an inline version for the Xerox and Monolta The coating can be varied for thickness and works with all digital and offset prints (one solution). Tec-Lighting has been developing UV lamp technology for many years and has revolutionized uv coating.
     
    I'll second Garry's comments. We recently purchased a UV Coater from Tec Lighting and love it. So far, it can coat almost anything, Xerox, Canon etc..
