    Hi,

I'm trying to buy a fairly used Heidelberg small format press. I have narrowed my choices to GTO52V(1989+) and SM52V. From my research, I discover that the major advantage of SM52 over GTO52 is the autoplate system.

Are there other significant differences between these two machines.

The price of the GTO is particularly attractive.

    Your contributions will be appreciated.

Autoplate is great for any press.

I think the SM has a stream feeder vs the single sheet pick up on the regular GTO.
The roller train is also been improved on the SM.
The dampeners might have the delta/hickey picking system.

    Hi,

    SM52 over GTO any day.

SM52 is much faster to set up, makeready and running speed, the feeder is so easy to set up and use.
Auto wash of rollers, blankets and impression cylinders.
Autoplate is worth the extra by itself as the GTO plate mounting is so slow and cumbersum.
It has the best ink roling power ratio of any Speedmaster and with Alcolor as standard is very easy to maintain.

If cost is an issue and you look to get a GTO you could regret it in the future as the SM52 will hold its value much more economically than a GTO, so pay a bit more and get a far better machine.

    Regards.
