We've used Challenge Paper drills (both hydraulic and manual) for years and years with little or no incident.

But for some reason both of our current machines are having some problem.

They will go down through part of the stack of paper and often create a terrible hole that looks like drill is struggling.

We have lubricated with wax stick (which does seem to help for a few hundred).
    We have sharpened bit.
We have even switched to a whole new bit.
We have switched out the wood block.
We have made sure its just "kissing" wood block.

    Nothing seems to last long.

    We are cutting small holes----3/16".
We usually are cutting 100 16pt CS2 coated with UV at a time.
Usually we are putting holes in thousands at a time.

What could possibly be the problem with these two machines?

    Dear Sir
    Good day
You not specify is the Drill has more heads in both ?
However after you did test many options are 2 Additionals:
    1) Air in the Hydraulic System(in case of Hydraulic) replace by new Hydraulic Oil
recommend by the Factory, and bleed the system. Test for any Leak in the system(hoses, clamps)
    2) In both case the Motor bracket +Guide bar has play, (must be replace or go to the workshop turner
    for fix it.
    Thank you in advance,
    regards
back to me any question or doubt

Are you drilling a few, then waiting a bit between sets? if so, it may be like when drilling lamination and you my need to drill some regular paper in between periods that the drill sits. Otherwise, the drill bits heat up and then cool down with the uv coated paper in the bit. Thus having a hard time pushing through the bit as it cools down. That's what it looks like to me.

    Dear Sir:
Maybe is a good idea to contact the supplier Dril Bit
and explain what is the reason ?
Maybe the material that you are using is Not a right.
Or maybe you are problem with the machine, or Not handling properly.
