Canon ImageRunner 5051 and Adobe CS and PDFs

My company 8 months into a lease with a Canon 5051 imagerunner. We have had constant and changing problems with the machine that include not drawing paper any heavier than "plain" from drawers (can only use side tray), unworkable mailboxes and weekly visits from techs for everything from color registration and quality to printer driver problems (we use a Fiery system). We rely nearly solely on Adobe software (CS3 and Acrobat 8 pdfs), and it is becoming more and more clear that Canon and Adobe don't get along well.

I am writing to find out if there are Art Directors or others out there who would care to recommend any alternative manufacturer (Xerox, Ricoh?). Where working with Adobe products is lower maintenance than this?
