calibrating ctp plates

Hi looking to see what printers are doing with calibrations of plates.
Do you calibrate the plate to have no dot gain and let the press give it some gain, or do you take out the dot gain of the press and apply a gain via ctp software?

We have set up all of our CTP with no gain, and maintaine the presses to the best print and print a gain scale on all jobs, and print it so it is monitored every day, every job
