We have a lot of paper that comes from the merchants with sheet size variation. It's usually around .5mm. The register does tend to vary a lot on the backing up. Management is always complaining but don't understand when I explain to them. I was always told that sheet size consistency is crucial on a perfector to ensure consistent registration when backing up. Unless our guillotine operator wants to trim every pallet before printing, there's not a lot more that I can do. Am I missing something here? Just trying to clear things up with management!

Unfortunately this seems to be the trend; either they don't have the knowledge or they don't care. Make sure when you perfect, you give your self room to maneuver. No maxed out headstops or cylinder

  • The best condition: look for another supply Paper, and see before to order, to give you a small lot of paper to do some test, before to buy IT.

I would suggest that when you register the sheet from front to back that you pull out a series of a half dozen sheets, and average the marks out between them. Then instruct feeder operator to keep an eye out as he rolls in the skid to the feeder for sheets on the stack that are longer or shorter than the average. Set these sheets aside until the end of the job and re register front to back for the variation. Of course you will want to flag these sheets for the bindery.
