Auto-Trapping on the 7010 (+ A2200)

I noticed that by default, the A2200 (Fiery) on the C7010VP does not have auto-trapping enabled. To address complaints of color registration (especially around text placed on a color background), it is now standard practice to enable this feature before releasing a job.

There must be some downsides to this or else it would be on by default.. no?

What are the pros and cons of the auto-trapping on the 7010?

trapping is available thru hotfolders only
7010vps is not a good machine in regards to quality of print(600dpi) and colour consistency is extremely poor
good machine if ur a document printer
had nothing but trouble with machine and canon management (accused of vandalizing the machine since it cannot produce the results I need)
line screening is extremely poor and does not print well on a screen comparison to uncoated offset screening
have a ricoh c901GA+, rego problems but acceptable for digital, colour is really good in reproduction and consistent
cant wait to get new ricoh flagship production printer!!! - and staff help is excellent
