My AB Dick 9985 was running awesome until about last week when the second head is just pouring on water to the plate I haven't changed anything and I have new crestlines in it all the adjustments are correct Its just running way to much solution to the plate Any one with a suggestion please I am in the middle of the job that has half tones on it and need to finish this job!

hi ziggy hows the humidity in the shop ?im not to familiar with crestlines but we have the same press.
i guess you can check the ovious water level\ water form\ durometer too soft you get lots of water
are you using ipa ? is the soloution fresh/ try using a fan aimed at the unit to get through job i have kompacs and once in awhile they go crazy .gotta love printing .good luck

  • Have you tried tightening down the metering roller more? If stops are down all the way against the frame and can't tighten any farther loosen the set screws (there should be two on each stop) and then tighten down the metering roller. What I would do if I were you is looses all 4 set screws (2 on each side). Start your press and drop the crestline and forms down. Keep tightening the metering roller until the whole plate inks up. Then, gradually back off the metering roll pressure until the tone disappears. The point right where your plate cleans up should be where your stops need to be adjusted to. That is the minimal amount of water you would want to run. Hopefully that is all that you need to do to get rid of the excess water.

The only problem with tightening my metering roller that much is they are pretty much brand new and i don't wanna wear it out right away. Its just odd thats its only the second head thats having this problem. I some how got thru my one job but now I am having trouble again on a two color letterhead on 20# white, image looks great but its curling up really bad. I will try tightening my metering roller down some more just to get thru this job hope it works i've done everything i can think of just didn't wanna mess up my rollers like this but i can always back em off after the jobs done

Okay i tried the metering roller trick and still to much water plate doesn't become saturated with ink at all. When I look at the Intermediate to Oscillator roller I can see there is just a ton of water built up to the point of dripping. I have tried cutting my fountain solution back didn't work, also tried some solution with a bit of alcohol in it to try and dry it out still didn't work. Anything else i can try??? My Shop is fairly dry I run a dehumidifier 24/7

hey ziggy checck that your intermediate roller is set corectlly you can get to much water if its either too tight
    or too loose'

everything is checking out okay. intermediate roller had slight play in it but not much at all, I think back to when i ran this same letterhead in april of this year and I believe i had the same curling problem, It could be the 20# paper im using im going to throw some 60# in and see if it still does it

Form to Oscillator wasn't even touching on the op side don't know how that got out of adjustment but I am going to try running it now and see how she does I will let ya'll know if its working good!

yea so its doing the same **** i took off the other job and tried a new one after cleaning up and nope still soaking my plate!!!

ziggy if you have the old water form try to use it and see if there is a difference the rubber on the new one may be
too soft either way you will eliminate one part of the problem good luck

  • I changed out the water form roller to an old one i had laying around it seems to be doing better now just gotta get all my adjustments back to factory specs from playing around.
