So we've been dealing with constant issues with our new 6010 since it was installed late last year.

The most current issue raised it's ugly head today AGAIN so we called tech again.

The issue is the color fades off the print starting approx 1" away from the edge of the page. So you'd have a nice image until 1" away from the edge and then it suddenly fades out. This has been happening since we got the machine.

Today the tech tells me the solution is to build a custom profile for the stocks and bump up the transfer voltage to get rid of the fade.

To me this is not a fix, it's a work around as it did not do this from the start of print (it started 100 books into printing) and if this is such a common problem, why isn't the voltage up to remove the issue from the factory?

So how many users out there have had this fading issue and have been told that a custom paper profile is the only fix to it?

media limitation is common in all digital machines, even though its a workaround to create custom profile, its a widely accepted custom along all digital press users irrespective of the brand. The transfer current is not jacked up in the factory because they have to attain an optimum for the various types of media that can be used in the machine. there is something called a recommended media list which are tested in each manufacturers factory under various conditions to be approved .
