3302 roller settings

A little help please.

Just got a used 3302 h with Kompac dampening.

Having trouble in the second head with the # 2 form roller.
It seems to be too close to the frame tie shaft.

The first head is fine, there's at least an eighth inch clearance even with the
forms dropped to plate. On the second head, there's barely .010" clearance
with the forms up. When I drop them it's so close that ink piles up on it
and then drops onto the plate during the run.

any adjustment for this?

Do you think it's the correct roller? Compare it with #1 unit to see if it's been swapped out or wrong roller in that spot. Also be sure the night latch is down and the form shaft is not 180* out. Like on is off and off is on etc...... I always number the shafts 1-2-3 and keep the rollers on the shafts when removed for cleaning/maint. Been a while since I've been around a 3302 so going from memory here sorry. BTW how is the form to plate ink stripe?

  • That's a couple of good suggestions. I'll take a caliper in tomorrow and check the dimensions against the book. Being old school, I was taught to always keep the shafts with the rollers when you pull them. No telling what the guy before me did. To tell the truth, all the rollers are pretty well shot. Forms are shrunk in the middle and swollen on the ends, riders and vibrators have gouges and cuts in them. looks like somebody used a razor blade to clean dried ink off. I can get a good stripe to plate on all forms, stripes to distributors is minimal at best. The good news is, the powers that be say I can order a full set of rollers for both heads in a few days. new rubber always make things run better.
