Years ago there was a customer I serviced who used to print on plastic for a very specific application. He had to lay down quite a bit of powder and let the stack dry for a day or two before cutting it. After a year or so of this he ended up adding a UV oven with a conveyor from the delivery of the press going to it and converting the QMDI rollers to accept UV inks.

From this experience you can obviously print on plastic, but it would be better to have a machine designed for doing so if you were to do it frequently.

Thank for your answer and for that wonderfull story about redisigning QMDI to a UV machine. Story is hillarious but your customer is, most probably, genious.

    thanks a lol :)

Čovek i reče "converting the QMDI rollers to accept UV inks".

I have QM DI classic, '97. Mostly i print flyers on coated paper, but also anything else starting from 50gr NCR up to heavy 350gr board, envelopes, etc. Best price i can reach is in 500-5000 printed sheets range but press can print many many more if you can find that job. My biggest run was 180.000 sheets 4/1. If you run job after job you will save on cleaning and this is relatively fast. In one day i can print max. about 40000 copies (the same job-plate). I do not spend too much time for prepress. Designs usually come from my clients. Sometime we do it ourself but most is from professional designers.
Press is relatively good and not hard-to-work on it. If you have trouble you can always call someone like JAN ROZEK (member of this forum) who have service for digital presses like Quickmaster DI. Maybe you can try speak with him and he will tell you more about this press. I can recommend him.

    Hello Paul,
We are trying to do the same as customer you've mention (QMDI 46-4, printing on plastic without UV). A time ago, we had inks that (we tought) that is suitable for printing on plastic, but we can't find it now. Picture bellow is all that I have...

Do you know where we can get those inks (Toyo, Sun Chemical, Huber...)? Or maybe you know some other inks that is suitable for this?
