Have a SM 74 which I just bought with a Grafix MS 250 IR dryer ( new year 1998 ). The IR dryer does worked, but the display just lights up and does not show anything else. Previous owner just turn on and off the the IR dryer using the on and off buttons ( upper left side ). Is the screen display already broken or is the data not reaching the display since the display still lights up.

I have also taken a picture of the screen display which is inside the control box. Picture shown is not yet powered up. When it lights up it is white pinkish in color.

Any input or help on this is highly appreciated.

    Dear Pressmachines,

Your question above is my answer and your "input" for now, at least in the limit of the provided information and performed tests. Just use "and/or" instead of "or" there.

Also, it could be assumed the CCFL backlight lamp(s) and HV backlight inverter are functionning.

If the problem begun after machine has been moved, I would suggest to start thinking from this point for the fault locating.

    Regards,
    Oleg T.

Thank you for your help. The problem started when it was still with the previous owner of the press even before I bought it. Can we assume that the screen display is still in working condition. Can you point out the part in inside control box that I need to check. I can take a picture of the boards inside the control box so that you can help point out the particular board that need repair or replace. Thank you in advance. Hear from you soonest.

    Dear Pressmachines,

Just for an abstract LCD system: Power-supply->controller->cable/connectors->LCD. If they have placed any additional adapter(s) on this way, it(them) should be checked aslo.

The most effective ways to locate near any problem are visual and by inter-swapping of components if available. After, it is a less effective but more exact way - checking power supplying lines with a voltmeter/scope, data and control sygnals with a scope.

    Regards,
    Oleg T.

I do not know if I am lucky or not but I have same controller model box which I think it come with another machine long time ago ( complete component inside ) but I do not know the condition if this is working or not unlike the one connected to the SM 74 right now which is working but no display. I can try your first suggestion of inter-swapping the component. Please help me identify which component to first interchange which you think is causing display problem, the following are pictures of the boards inside the IR controller. First picture boards are connected on top of each other you can also see a brown connector (two black wires ) coming from the display screen under the boards. Second picture this is the board connected the display with my finger pointing to the said brown connector. Third picture is the board which houses the connections / plugs. Fourth picture is the display board ( the brown connector with 2 black wire ) beside it is the board which has the push button underneath it. Again thank you in advance. Hear from you soonest.
