    Dear sirs.

I have a problem with heidelberg original spectrometer CP.157.0901/02 (only 20months old). It does not work. all it does is that measure head comes out and then it stops and error shows up on main display. Error is: NO COMMUNICATION WITH SPECTROMETER and SYSTEM DOES NOT RECOGNIZE SPECTROMETER.

I have tried to change communication cable and it is the same. After one week it started to work for few days and now again it is "dead".

What do you guys think what can I check because all I get from HEIDI is offer for 20.500€ spectrometer.

Thank you all for any suggestions.

    Hi sir:

Please do this Troubleshooting in the Spectometer, remember the best Invaluable tools is : your 5 senses :

    1) Perform a visual inspection : look for loose and broken wires, improperly seated connectors, loose or broken wires
missing switch, missing jumpers. and so on.
    Chech for obviously damaged component(components burned or discolore due to overheating);
    Dust + dirt + tear +wear

    2) Reseating Boards and components:
Edge connectors are a common souorce of problems. Power down the system and remove the PC boards. Examine the edge connector
for contamination and clean with contacts cleaner contacts. Reseat any loose components such as scoketed ICs) . Reseat the
    boards and power up.

    3) Power supply checks:
Check the power supply for missing voltages and voltages out of spec. A digital multimieter DMM can be necessary, as
voltage specifications are quite tight: logic supplies for example: must be within + 5% percent of 5Vdc. All the
multiple supplies and all must be checked.

    4) Board swapping:
Board swapping involves the substitutiono of a known godd board for a suspect one.

    5) Clock for CPU:
Check the frecuency with frequency counter or a DMM included frecuency counter( like Fluke DMM)

    6)Reset CPU:
reset cpu see the attached schematic.

    7) Components ; Rusting+Dry+Colder joint solders

    8)Cables; Corroded+Broken

Thank for answer. I did opened spectrometer on friday and cleaned conecctor, meassure battery (ok 3,6v) and cleaned measuring head with alcohol. After that it started to work again. I don't know if that was a reason for it. Will check in following days and if it happens again then jusz have to buy a new one.

About one month ago we did changed from HDD1 to HDD2 on computer because we did have some problems with computer. Then we did, after few days, changed back to HDD1. Can this have

Here are attached pictures of spectrometer. Error log is in our language...

    Hi sir:

As you must remember in steps 2:

    Reseating Boards and components:
Edge connectors are a common souorce of problems. Power down the system and remove the PC boards. Examine the edge connector
for contamination and clean with contacts cleaner contacts. Reseat any loose components such as scoketed ICs) . Reseat the
    boards and power up.

Cleaning with Alcohol or other cleaner contact, as 100% of success in the electronic/electrical system, to due : Dust, corrosion, contamination.etc.

By that reason, your device was working again, I do not believe that was a problem with HDD, if this have error or problem, if does not show a problem, like you had.

In short , is very important, the preventive maintenance in any equipment, ASAP, to due the reason explain before.

    Great job.
