We have a early 2000 CD74 with an extended delivery. Over the years, the gripper fingers have taken a few hits from paper jams and been bent out of line. I was wondering if there was a method to readjust the grippers like I could on older SO models. For now, we try just eyeballing it but it isn't very precise. Any ideas?

To adjust delivery grippers you need to first try to straighten them out if the are bent. Look to get the edge of the gripper to line up square with the gripper pad on each gripper. Do this AFTER you've done a thorough cleaning of all the grippers on all of the bars. Once the actual grippers are in line and parallel with the pads you will need to find the arm that controls the amount of gripper close. Its a little cast arm on the gear side of the delivery gripper. There should be a number (metric) stamped onto the arm. This number will vary from gripper bar to gripper bar. The arm needs to be gently pried open against the closing springs, and a feeler gauge of the designated number needs to be places between this arm and the casting it closes against. This will be your preset closing amount. At this point you will need to loosen all grippers on the shaft and working from the middle out, on both sides, close equally, and center each gripper on its corresponding pad. Once you've done all grippers on all bars you are done. This will eat up the better part of the morning depending upon how long the delivery is.

I would also add that before adjusting the individual grippers on each bar, that you use a straight edge to bring all your gripper pads into alignment. The pads will need to all be clocked to the same location around the shaft. After the pads are correctly clocked you can then adjust the grippers. If after all of this you still have trouble I would think that the grippers need to be rebuilt. This usually involves a re pinning of the shaft and spring tensions adjusted, pads replaced, and damaged grippers replaced.
