You can create your own pre inking settings, that in my opinion, are better than what Heidelberg offers. I prefer to pre ink with an even setting across the entire width of the roller train. This even setting will result in an even ink film thickness on the rollers. In my opinion, there is ZERO need for an ink up strategy that alters ink feed zonally during ink up. If your CIP data is accurate, an even ink film on the rollers at startup should get you where you want to be. Form coverage relates ONLY to ink replenishment once the run begins!!! It matters not that your form has a full gripper to tail solid on one side of the sheet and a postage stamp sized image on the other side. The same even ink film on both sides will be the required amount of in to start with. At this point people may ask..."do you think you know better than the Heidelberg engineers?" The answer is YES!!! There is no need to complicate things with a two step ink up process, that leaves your press with an uneven film across the rollers. Heidelberg's ink up strategy leaves me scratching my head in disbelief as to competence of the engineers that developed it.
