This issue of pushing back the paper before gripping the sheet can be a few things and its unlikely the setting of the grippers. Very common for the GTO infeed control lever to be worn out. This lever, located under the feed board on the drive side controls gripper opening/closing times as well as head stop movement. If you have a multi color press it also controls the actuation of your double sheet detector. It is very likely that this shaft needs to be replaced. It can be adjusted but its only a matter of time before it needs to be replaced if an adjustment is even possible. Also, the gripper shaft on the swing gripper can be worn out. Worn ends of the gripper shaft especially on the drive side can cause the grippers to no open far enough for the sheet. Either one of these repairs are not easy if you have never done it before. Best to let a qualified mechanic to make this repair for you.

I have done dozens of these GTO infeed jobs and I can tell you from experience that the most likely cause of your grippers not opening is the gripper operating lever located under the feed board. Also, looking at the condition of your GTO with the pictures provided it is also quite likely that you have bad bearings on your gripper shaft. Likely both the swing gripper and the gripper operating lever need to be rebuilt.

If you're noticing the flange which carries the cam (items you have highlighted) is not stable, hence your question regarding the need to change one or the other...it's not a question of which one to change. As ex-heid mentioned, the problem could be in the operating lever, not pictured in your photos but key to the operation of the assembly you have pictured. Or, if the lever assembly is actually good, the rod heads could have bad bearings, the needle bearing in the flange assembly could be bad in which case the headstop shaft must be removed just to see what parts should be ordered. In removing all these assemblies, you will have disturbed a number of critical adjustments. If you clean up the area and mark/measure everything very thoroughly, you may stand a chance of getting the machine to run again. See all previous posts to determine whether you're up to doing the job. Good Luck

You have the flange highlighted in your picture, the operating lever is below and rod ties the two together

The lever in question is part #23. It should come complete with the lever shown, lever on the gear side of the side frame and both levers pinned to a shaft connecting the two. There are also 2 needle bearings inside the frame that the shaft turns on. These I usually replace also since I am in there. Good luck with the repair.

Hi, We run into troubles with the GTOF52 S/N 701 462 started wrinkling some of the sheets 200# coated stock, loosing registration on the wrinkled sheets. We managed to "adjust" the gripper separation on the infeed gripper shaft to the thickness of the coated 200# stock, but I believe that this is masking the real problem. We have to run 50,000 sheets of 12 PT cardboard on this press next week…

This sheet in feed problem happened after running an odd lot of C1S 16 PT cardboard as there were some sheets of 20 PT cardboard mixed with it. The double sheet detector didn't stop the press. Could the MV.021.910 be out of adjustment or the actual gripper's need replacement?
The shaft MV.021.910 was bought last year as the original one broke where the steel "die" is located.

In the mean time Heidelberg in Costa Rica doesn't have available techs and the other ex-heidelberg techs claim that we have to replace all grippers for starters.

I would like to buy a timing wheel, post and zero dial to have it. Our local Heidelberg Techs carry one but incomplete without the zero dial as they ask us to cut a printing plate to make the pointer…

    Please shed some lights!

Hello Robert...First off, in the 15 years with Heidelberg and the 15+ years as an independent, I have never carried with me a "Heidelberg pointer" for reading degree values. Some use a modified magnetic base, but in most applications, this doesn't even work for plastic or aluminum covers. I've always used printing plate or steel banding material:

As to your wrinkling problem, there are far too many variables to make a call as to what your problem may be. Since you had the lever assembly replaced, it's unlikely there is a wear issue with that, unless it was improperly installed. I've never in all my time replaced grippers on the swing arm, but the shaft itself could be worn on either end. It's also possible your swing arm cam follower has blown. Any adjustment on the lever assembly could have come loose, or the eccentric for swing gripper release to the impression cylinder has come loose (very common). It really will take a trained eye to determine what direction you need to take.

Tooling for making these adjustments are very hard to come by on the open market, the are proprietary and and anyone exposed for selling them could get burned.

    Good Luck!

I suggest reading previous posts. Most, if not all, possibilities have been noted in this string. I hope you marked your starting point before you began turning operating rods.

Have you considered the fact that you may have the swing arm out of position? If you didn't drill and pin the aluminum clamping rings prior to removal, your chances of returning the swing arm to precise position is unlikely. The only way to properly return to proper position without having drilled and reamed for locating pins is by using a degree wheel. You may try shifting the swing arm forward in slight increments to see if you can make improvements.

There are so many things going on, controlled by the operating rods, it's difficult to say what you may have changed. Good luck.

Thank you sir for your reply
Sir while changing the cam follower bracket the locating pin got damaged and I made new hole and reamed for locating pin I noticed when the swing arm gripper is in closed position near feeder table four gripper from operating side is near to table and four grippers from gear side is little distance from feeder table
