I wonder if you would be able to answer some questions for me. I am looking to purchase a wide format printer for my business. Currently I print 12” x 12” borderless prints that I have designed.

At this time I am using an Epson Artisan 1430 with a continuous ink system. I buy my paper pre-cut to 12x12 and print borderless. I use a 60lb Polar Matte, which I think is a Premium Matte Paper. I am printing up to 100 papers per day. I am looking for a more cost effective way for me to print these papers and someone suggested a large format printer, like an HP Postscript printer and rolls of paper.

I know I really need to go with a more professional setup, I just don’t know anything about them or what other supplies I would need. Would someone be able to help me to give me an idea of a printer, paper, setup, etc. that I would need?

    Hello,

If you're doing a good amount of printing (even per day), a larger model would be better so you can nest the images to print out all together. The other thing that may help is a cutter after it prints so you can easily complete the job. Canon came out with their large format models and work with a cutter company that contour cuts (as well as regular cutting of the images separately). Since large printers have much bigger inks than the 1430 with a continuous ink system, you'll also save money in the long run. I'm not sure how much you get in the ink system, but you can purchase up to 700ml with Canon.

If you'd like to discuss this more (if you haven't already figured out options from someone else), feel free to contact me at cwood@itsupplies.com. We do have some promos ending in a few days to save you more money on the printer.
