I am planning to buy SM-74 2 color printing machine. Can any one let me know what the things to be considered when purchasing SM-74. Can anyone explain what are the sections of the machine should be checked and what the prints should be taken.

SM74 is not unlike any other machine. Check condition of all printing cylinders, indicating the cylinders would be best but doing breakaways would be ok as well. Another important thing I always do when inspection a used machine is always ask the customer to see the grease gun used for maintenance. This does a few things. First it will tell you how often the machine was greased. If the owner cant find or doesnt have a grease gun, you know it was never greased regularly. Also, will tell you what kind of grease was being used. Everything else is pretty normal stuff. Check rollers, belts, filters, central grease system (look for flow grease canisters to confirm correct grease is used). Since its not a perfector its pretty much straight forward.

    Hi Mr. kokulan,
What Mr. Asif said is 100% correct. And also I would like to add more to his answer. I suggest you to buy a SM74 with high pile delivery. (If you have enough space for the machine , obviously) Because the electronic control system is different what comes with the standard delivery machine, which is comparatively easy to diagnose and repair. And also check for any error codes in the display before you buy.

Furthermore, if you're buying the machine from a local trading company, make sure to go for a reputed company, otherwise you will experience some warrenty problems. And you wish to import directly by yourself, I prefer you go there and check the machine personally with a technician / engineer to check the mechanical parts (cylinders especially) but please note that nobody can give a guarantee to the electronic control system. (It can fail in any instance.) And also the installation should be done by good and experienced technicians and/or engineers.

    Hope this helps

The printing work most of them i do is 2 colours and for certain months only we get 4 colour jobs and i am not doing any quality jobs and currently i am having one KORD and KORS so if i am going towards a 2 colour machine i think SORMZ will be cost effective because for SM-74 Alcohol expenses and A/C cost and Maintainance cost will add i think what is the opinion about this

As I quoted you in another post similar to this, SORMZ is a good machine, you cannot compare it with SM74 which has many advantages over it but It will get the Job done. Alcohol/IPA costs are not much if you calculate the amount of time and hassle needed it takes to clean and maintain the conventional dampening.

Also in the SX datasheet it says that IPA Consumption has been reduced in SX Series, So normally in SM series the IPA consumption is more? So i am buying used latest year models of SM-74-2 will the IPA consumption is less comparing with the older models

There is no reason that a properly setup Speedmaster should ever need to run more than 5 percent IPA. Most can be run on zero IPA if you're willing to work a bit at it.

Combination of ways. First requirement is commitment. Then you need to find a chemistry that works. This chemistry will include an alcohol substitute. You may need to experiment with a few different products in different formulas. You will need good rollers that are set correctly and a softer durometer water form and pan roller. You may even need to go with a pan roller that is ground parallel instead of crowned. The roller settings in the dampener need to be accurate and maintained, and set a little tighter than with IPA. Lots of guys give up on running IPA free at the first sign of problems. This is where the commitment comes in. Good luck if you choose to go this route, and know that there are many on this forum that are well versed in how to do it.

    hi,

    Please check the attached image.

Is it mandatory to have 12feet width to install SM-74-2 with the working environment, because I have a bit limited workspace.

Also My press entrance is 6 feet do i need to extend the height to bring the SM-74-2 inside, i can extend the entrance maximum to 9 feet.

    Hi
    Auto wash what?
    Roll? Blanket? Impression cylinder?
There should be. But may be they have removed when you buy it. Who knows...
See whether the water tank is there under the side platform.

    Cheers.
