xerox dc 252 or km bizhub 454/554 or workcentre 75 series

i used to work in the film industry and after a fall in productions never being at home i decided to do various things ...do have background in graphic an 3d design ( 3 year 3d an animation degree)but worked in cinema for last decade..

two years ago a client of mine that i do social media consultancy asked a 17:00 if i had anyone that could do 1000 folded a5 flyer for 7 am ,i said yes and ran to a a store an bought two 50usd hp office-jet printer,that week i ended up with 6 hp8600 officejet pro,was cheaper to buy a new the cartridge..
hacked them all up to ciss, but need to put 100 pages every x hours in 6 machines..

month after bought 7 hp pagewide, 2 hacked with dye,2 hacked 2 pigment an the rest on oem ink..
i love these machine and damm do they print cheap, 1000ml cost me 30us each color and the client says same as the oem ink i pass the saving to the client an offer, 2 tier quality pricing..
bought a vortex bookbinder that can bind up 200 books an hour.. an other stuff..

this is my dilemma i need a 2 hand copier,color copier that doesn't do more than 20k click a month as it willl be for booklets only... my needs

- has be reliable an easy maintenance as i fix my own machine no support
- color with good quality
- has to work well with booklet finisher
-consumables price long run

ok these are my option :

km bizhub c454/554 w 400k (100% my budget )
workcentre 75 series w 500 (100% my budget)
xerox workcentre 7210 w 600k (50% my budget )
xerox dc252 w 1.6 million (60% my budget)
xerox dc 252 w 700k (135% my budget )

 

20k is bit over claimed i would realistically say i wouldn't print more than 10k of A4 on good month

 

I'd stay away from the DC252's. Those are VERY old models...I was running them about 15 years ago. And because they are so old, Xerox has or will be soon, declaring them end of life and no longer produce parts for them. I know this because I had a customer with one who was told they wouldn't be supported soon and he was being pushed to upgrade.

Between the workcentre 75 series and the 72 series, I believe but please verify, that the 75 series is the newer generation, so you're best bet is to go with that one since it will have a longer time period before reaching end-of-life...plus it has less clicks!

The km you mentioned was a good generation for the engine, however, the booklet makers on them were not very reliable for consistent use. I used to work for Konica Minolta, and many customers had to upgrade to the production level units when doing alot of books, because the office copier class didn't hold up...just not really designed for that.

Out of all of these, the DC252's are the only ones considered in the "Production" or "Digital Press" class. The rest are all office copiers, or "MFPs" meant for office use. If you really are doing alot of volume, and want better quality, and more paper choices you should look at used light production presses at the very least such as a Xerox C75, J75, or Konica Minolta C1060L, C2060L, etc.

 

Thanks jwheeler, that puts me back into the drawing board,im going to rethink my approach,i don't have the budget for c/j 75 at the moment , the best i found in a quick check was a bizhub pro 950, and waiting for some quotes,also checking importing from europe a c70 ...i will keep you posted might.. thanks

 

The Bizhub Pro 950 is only a b/w unit, not color. Also, it has been declared end of life by Konica Minolta. It was replaced by the Pro 951 roughly 6 or 7 years ago, then replaced again a few years ago by the Pro 1100. Instead of purchasing, I'd recommend talking to a local dealer about leasing. That way you don't have to empty your bank account for a used machine that will eat up parts, costing you more money. You can do a 36, 48, or 60 month lease with any vendor. If you really want to own, you can do $1-out financing which means you own it at the end of the term. It will be a slightly higher payment though. And I don't know how long its been since you looked into a service program, but with your volume you can get the cost per click down pretty low these days. With a production level digital press, most vendors are charging around $0.035 to $0.045 per page, any size...and around $0.009 per page b/w any size.
