I've been having some fit problems, so I decided to run some solids to see if something odd was going on. Impression was weak on the operator side in 1 unit. Mechanic verified the blanket and impression cylinder are out of parallel, and adjustments are still factory pinned. Not sure how they are replaced but Heidelberg quoted me a price of $26,500 parts and 1.5 days labor. HELP! Where else can I buy them?

    Thanks
    Scott

"blanket and impression cylinder are out of parallel"...obviously, I'm not fully informed regarding what steps were taken to come to this conclusion, and your description is lacking many particulars, such as whether you experienced a severe paper jam in that unit. Parallelism of the blanket to impression is dictated by eccentric bearing bolts which are not factory pinned, but the eccentric bearing bolts dictating parallelism of the blanket to plate is. Bottom line, if there was a jam up or catastrophic incident between cylinders at that unit, then yes, your bearing bolts may have absorbed enough force to bend them, and may also have bent the journals of the cylinders and caved in the cylinder faces, resulting in what you are seeing. In your breakaways, are you seeing a gradual fade of the image on one side, or a pocket of fading combined with the gradual fade? There is no sourcing for these bearing bolts outside of Heidelberg. All that being said, unless I've interpreted your explanation incorrectly and the problem is actually at the needle cage bearings that the cylinder journals run in, that would be a whole different story.

Hi Junker. No major jam ups or similar disasters. Took .002 of packing out from under the blanket. When that happened, impression on OS looked weak, running solids confirmed a gradual lightening toward OS from about the center of the sheet. Running strips of paper between impression and blanket confirmed that there was more space between the blanket and impression cylinder on the OS. To correct this, the pin (see red arrows in pic) was removed and something was adjusted to increase the blanket to impression contact on the OS. What could cause this? Where is the wear occurring? I thought this could be impression cylinder needle bearings. Thoughts?

This would be normal procedure to compensate for variance of pressure due to wear in the bearing bolts I mentioned, no matter how slight. Before we start making something big of nothing, I ask...did this remedy the fit issue? If so, no further actions are required. What model year is the CD? If it's aged, or massive amount to of impressions have been clocked, you may want to have the blanket to plate checked, also. This is quite a bit more labor intensive, and the pressure cannot actually be checked, but adjusted simply to see what the difference is from now to the original factory settings. If you're satisfied with the outcome of the actions taken by your mechanic so far...leave well enough alone. 26K in parts replacement just to do it, seems silly to me.
