hi everyone. Next Monday I’m gonna test 40lb and 30lb offset text. Have you guys ever run that type of paper? Does it run? Will it run? I run a Heidelberg 102 zp cp tronic model 1994.

Do you have blow down bars running lengthwise in your delivery? You'll need to use those. Three of them is optimal. Are your slow down wheels relatively new? They must be in rotating absolutely true, radially. Is the slow down wheels shaft also running true? This is a must. Is the vacuum working at all slow down wheel manifolds? Another must. There is a whole new learning curve to running a sheet such as you mention, relative to running 60-70 lb sheets. Delivery gripper bars are quite forgiving on conventional sheet thicknesses, but when running such light weight stocks, individual gripper settings from bar to bar are critical.

Thanks for the information, junker. So I’m assuming I’m not running 11,500 an hour anymore right?

I would recommend that you set up delivery to stretch out the sheet as its being deposited on the pile. To do this run the release cam late with the slowdown wheels a little slower than the surface speed of the incoming sheet. This will in effect s t r e t c h the sheet out taught before the grippers let go. Be sure that your rearmost blowdown tubes are set up right over each individual slowdown wheel lightly blowing the sheet down onto the slowdowns.

Well, I just tested that 40 lb and 30 lb. the 40 lb ran like a champion, real good (11,500hr). With the 30 lb I had a hard time trying to get it run, but it ran(9,000 hr). Not bad at all.
