I have an older Challenge paper drill that has been working well after receiving a new power cord until today. I'm trying to drill into 120# coated stock (about 3/4" stack) using a 1/8" bit. It binds up and comes out in the paper when the head goes back up. I've oiled the bit inside and out, sharpened as best I can, but it doesn't seem to want to let go of the paper. Tips?

Sounds like the bit is still very dull. New bits are not a lot to buy. Also I've always used a wax stick to lube the drill bit before and during. A good bit should have no trouble going through that much stock.

Thanks! I finally gave in and drilled a stack half that size and it worked much better. We don't actually have a bit sharpener right now- that's the next thing on my order list. Seems the last people here were using a whetstone which doesn't seem to be very effective.

Challenge sells a decent one. Works by hand. New bits are around $20 each. Don't forget the wax stick. Ours is called "drill ease" but the box looks like it's from the 50's. At our shop more than likely is. It's wax with a lube added to assist with bit heat and whatnot.
