We are considering buying an Xante Impressia Digital Multi-Media Press for the specific purpose of printing envelopes. I have a quote from a local reseller and another one from an Xante rep. The one from the local dealer is considerably less money even though it is supposed to be new and exactly the same machine. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to going through a reseller vs. Xante? In your opinion, would service and support for the machine be better or worse with the reseller?

Appreciate any advice you have ...

If they're both new... there is NO difference unless the Xante rep is offering you something outside the standard warranty and support period. You get your standard warranty with support whether you buy direct or through dealer channel. If you want to buy it from Xante direct, see if the Xante rep will match your dealer price (he probably will).

There are many limitations with these machines, but we have tested many envelope solutions and found this to be the best available solution. Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply. The local sales rep is letting us demo the machine here in our office. There have been lots of glitches (ink smearing and jams), but most of it because we didn't know which settings to use when. Plus the iQueue software is not activated yet which will solve some of issues of envelope size selection. I understand that Xante gives good over-the-phone tech support but the local vendor has spent a lot of time here working through the problems. That's the advantage of the local supplier. From what I'm told, after we purchase the printer, all service is done through Xante.

So far we are impressed with the printer and look forward to learning what all we can do with the iQueue software.

That is true, support is done through Xante unless your dealer also offers it an additional help. We bought our first Impressia through a dealer who promised all kinds of support, and as soon as the check was cashed, he told us to call Xante. Xante support has gotten better over the years, but the machine still has limitations that they can't solve. We have found that they often force you to change out costly consumables before they will help you diagnose an issue that may be completely unrelated. So, in our case, we have called them sparingly and not renewed our service warranty. Hopefully your operator is somewhat technical and can solve some issues on his own.

As far as IQueue..... I've had it for a LONG time and not really all that impressed. It definitely has some controls beyond the old windows print dialog preferences, but it's glitchy in my opinion. DEFINATELY demand to full demo IQueue BEFORE you buy. If he is a legit dealer, this should be no problem. And make sure the machine he is selling comes packaged new in Xante original packaging with new starter set consumables. If not, it's not new, it's considered demo equipment and is worth about half the price of MSRP.

This should probably be a new thread, but I cant figure how to create one. We have tons of problems feeding #10s on our Impressia with Enterprise feeder. We print all sizes of envelopes, the problem comes when switching from catalog envs. to #10. We use Digimac windows, we have also used PrintMaster. Digimac are the only ones we can get right now. We have to get the clutch cleaned on a regular basis. Also we have to paint the top of the feed roller with white-out, as that is what the feed detector reads for jams. Sometimes it takes half a day to print 500 envelopes! Ugh!! I need a better envelope printer any recommendations? (We thought printing envelopes on a RISO was bad!) Has anybody ever used the "sensor clip?" Any advice out there? Size is correct, settings correct, it just doesn't want to feed #10s!

If you are running printmaster digital envelopes they should feed fine. Do you have the enterprise feeder? Have you replaced the 3 infeed wheels anytime recently? A new set of feed wheels can change everything for the positive. I fought feeding for a week and finally put on a new set of feed wheels in the infeed, wow no more jams or stops. Flap up and top of envelope towards the rear of the feeder if enterprise. Seems like it wouldn't work but it works great for us if digital flap envelopes.

Oh an if you are looking for a new printer, I am hearing great things about the Neopost mach 6. It's ink jet so the color isn't as good, but super fast and low cost per print. The mach 5 had a lot of issues, but it has been said by many that they were solved.

The sensor clip is a must because it keeps the pile from getting too thick at the feeder. The Impressia is supposed to come with one, but I never saw it. A Xante troubleshooter in California asked me if the clip was on and I had no idea what he was talking about. However, the ones I got are very poor quality and break very easily. By "easily" I mean I put one on and the next morning it was broken in two and had fallen off. So I glued the top half on the feeder arm. Leaving it glued on doesn't seem to make any difference when I feed card stock (up to 100# cover) or other stuff in the bypass tray. I have had to fine tune lots of little issues on the printer, but at this point it is performing very well. I have the info on how to turn up the temp on the fuser as it ages so you can use the "Lite" setting most of the time on full color envelopes. They are rated for 160,000 and up and I just now replaced the original. My printer has 470,000 on it.

I have no idea what "clutch" you are referring to, but would like to know. I have not had that issue I guess.

The envelopes I use are from a dealer that handles Western States. I would say 90% of them are flat enough I can walk away from the printer whether they are regulars or windows.

My feeder is the longer Enterprise feeder. The fine tuning on my feeder includes extra fingers on each side to keep the envelope feed edge lower; metal strips (feed tapes from my offset press) underneath each side of the envelopes on the feeder (when they do have some curl) and even a wheel I use sometimes that sits on top of the envelopes when they don't want to feed the way I want them to.

    Hope this helps.

Could you provide info on adjusting the fuser temp? We are having intermittent density issue and want to try adjusting the fuser temp.

Here is a pdf of the process. This came from a tech in California that I called one afternoon after 5 p.m. my time. I only raise the temp by 2º at a time and check the results. Also, since I replaced the fuser, I discovered my problem was that I still had it on "Catalog" and I am going to put the old fuser back in the machine and see what happens. A repair tech for 2 Ricoh printers that I have told me the fuser still looked good. Let me know if this helps. Tom

So I'm having trouble with skewing as the sheet goes through the machine. Support said look at the Registration Guide and see if the mylar is damaged and that we could try running machine without the guide. It helped out some but still having skewing issues. Also checking all rollers and they are in great shape. Can anyone help me out?

We have 2 of these with enterprise feeders. 1 skews and 1 does not. We have spent hours upon hours taking everything apart, checking all the tensions on rollers, inspecting the paper path and can't find any reason why the one would be skewing. Very frustrating. We are likely going to just replace the entire door with the bypass feeder section as our next option. Not sure what your technical ability is, but if you can find a used machine or a whole replacement door that might solve your issue.

Big secret (don't tell anyone), but you can save a lot of money knowing that your machine is rebranded Ricoh sp C820dn. Every part and consumable for the c820dn will work in you impressia EXCEPT for toners which are chipped. xante or ricoh.

    Welcome to the forum!

What do your envelopes look like? Do they have a twist in them? I had to go with a different brand where the job had copy all away across the top ... couldn't get them to run straight for nothing !!

The skewing seems to be more from the cassette drawers.

Is anyone else out there dealing with the Xante Impressia while printing continuously pausing? And it not like every 10; it's completely random?

It's likely the fuser getting worn out and trying to keep up with temp. pull out the fuser, use a qtip with alcohol and clean the little metal heat sensor behind the fuser.... (wait until machine cools a bit)

Could also be dirty belt sensors trying to calibrate color and density.

Does it seem to be color adjusting when pausing? and Have you altered any of the fuser temp settings?

The pause is short and ever now and then it does a calibration and we have not altered any of the fuser temp settings.
