We have an HP Indigo 7500 whose lease is expiring. We are considering replacing it with an Indigo 5r. We are a little concerned that these are actually reconditioned presses. I am sure the quality will be as good as our current press, but wondering if it will be as reliable. Even though we will have a service policy with it, we don't want to be down frequently.Does anybody have experience with one?

Yes the 5R is a recon machine. Most old HP lease machines go down this path that are turned in. With the part exchange program most parts are sent back and rebuilt anyway. And the rest of the machine itself gone over/cleaned up. If the savings are pretty good it may work for you. The big thing with the 5XXX series is the image oil is not 100% recycled and reused like the 7XXX series. So you'll have to dump the spent IO from the waste container into a waste barrel to be recycled. Our machine is almost 3 years into the lease and came with WIN XP new. Yikes. It's now been upgraded to WIN 7 at least. But you'd think for a high tech company and machine they'd be current with better hardware/software. No thing touch screen here. so go over all the options with your salesperson and FSE. I find the FSE know more WAY anyway. They are the true heroes of the company too.

Buying new or refurbished is not guaranteed that press will be work without problems.
It's like a lottery. Sometimes "r" presses working better than new one.
